Cesar H. Odio
City Manager ENCLOSURES
It is respectfully recommended that a resolution be passed for
the purchase of a Transportable Robot at an estimated cost of
$29,000. Funding is to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Miami Police Department is responsible for responding to
calls involving suspicious packages or bomb threats. With the
recent outbreak of terrorist attacks and bombings it has become
apparent that the officers must use the most efficient means
available to determine whether a package is in fact a bomb. The
Special Investigations Section/Bomb Squad unit would utilize this
Transportable Robot to remotely retrieve, and render safe,
explosive devices and/or suspicious devices, with a great degree
of safety. This machine would allow the Bomb Squad to perform
their assigned task with a greater degree of safety both for the
Squad and the public.
