SUBJECT . Resolution for the purchase of
Intoxilizer Equipment and Two
Electronic Measuring Devices

ENCLOSURES.
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution be passed for
the purchase of Intoxilizer Equipment, at an estimated cost of
$30,000, and two Electronic Measuring Devices, at an estimated
cost of $3,000. Funding is to be from the Law Enforcement Trust
Fund.
The Miami Police Department has become a testing site for persons
arrested for driving under the influence. As a testing facility
it is necessary that the Department purchase equipment to fulfill
its obligations in the processing of prisoners. This program is
being coordinated by the Health and Rehabilitative Services
Department of the State. Health and Rehabilitative Services has
supplied the Department with one piece of breath testing
equipment, an Intoxilizer 5000R. It is the responsibility of the
Police Department to obtain all. additional equipment. The
Traffic Enforcement Unit will administer the testing in various
locations within the City.
The Enforcement Detail is also updating equipment needed for
traffic accident and fatality investigations. The requested
Electronic Measuring Devices would provide an, accurate
measurement of vehicles and evidence at the scene of fatal
traffic accidents and would measure the tinting on the Windows of
vehicles.
It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the
purchase of Intoxilizer_ Equipment, at an estimated cost of
$30,000, and two Electronic Measuring Devices, at an estimated
cost of $3,000, funding to be from the Law Enforcement Trust
Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 290904--996, be approved.
