Odi City Manager RECOMMENDATION DATE, APR 31990 F1LEL SUSJECTi Ordinance Amending CIP Ordinance No. 10642 REFERENCES; ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached ordinance amending the Capital Appropriations Ordinance No. .10642, increasing appropriations for "Coconut Grove Exhibition Center - Renovation & Expansion", Project No. 415002, in the amount of $175,000 from a Contribution from Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. BACKGROUND The Department of Public Works and of Conferences and Conventions have determined that there exists a need to increase appropriations for the project entitled "Coconut Grove Exhibition Center - Renovation & Expansion". Bids will be requested, at a cost not to exceed $175,000. There is a need to replace the existing corrugated steel roof in the West Exhibit Area of the Coconut Grove Convention Center. The corrugated steel roof is over 40 years old, and is beyond the stage. where economical repairs would be feasible. It 'is essential that this work be done in a timely manner in order to have it completed in time for the rainy season. Consequently, immediate replacement of the corrugated steel roof will allow the City to more effectively utilize current operating allocations to the Coconut Grove Convention Center, and to substantially reduce water leakage damage. At the same time, other minor repairs and improvements are required to maintain the facility according to acceptable industry standards. The auditorium schedule can accommodate these new improvements. This amendment is being presented so that the project can proceed without :interruption.
