The Art in Public Places (AIPP) Board with the assistance and recommendations of the Planning
Department, Public Art Division, and all other City departments, as necessary shall:
1. Recommend the Public Art Program Guidelines and amendments to the Public Arts Program
Guidelines thereto to the City Commission.
2. Recommend the Public Art Master Plan and amendments to the Public Art Master Plan
thereto to the City Commission.
3. Approve expenditures to the Public Art Fund as proposed by the City Manager or his/her
designee.
4. Approve, approve with conditions, or deny proposed installations, dedications, or donations
of Art, based on the Public Art Program Guidelines and the Public Art Master Plan; and
5. To act on any other Art in Public Places related matter as assigned by the City Commission.
Members of the AIPP Board shall have an interest and knowledge of the visual and performing
arts, and the artistic development of the City. Eight (8) board members must be knowledgeable
and have a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate Degree from an accredited university or college. The
board consists of nine (9) voting members and two (2) alternate members qualified as follows:
• Five (5) members shall be chosen from the following fields: fine arts, art education, museum
curation, architecture, art history, architectural history, urban planning, urban design,
landscape architecture, interior design, or graphic or product design;
• One member shall be a professional artist; and
• Two (2) members shall be from the following fields: finance, real estate development, and/or
construction management.
• One (1) member and two (2) alternate members must have an interest in the visual and
performing arts. Neither of these members is required to have a Bachelor's, Master's, or
Doctorate Degree. One (1) alternate member shall be a representative of Miami -Dade County
Public Schools.
Our office advertised for applications in a newspaper of general circulation, as required by the City
Code Sec. 62-655(b).
Eight (8) appointments are needed at this time.
• Mayor Francis Suarez has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:'
1. Maria Napoles, incumbent, whose term expired on November 15, 2017.
• Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by :2
1. Nelson Delgado, incumbent, whose term expired on November 26, 2019.
• Commissioner Joe Carollo has one (1) nomination for a seat currently :3
1. Vacant. (Rene Morales resigned effective December 16 2021)
• Commissioner Christine King has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:'
1. Gary Feinberg, incumbent, whose term expired on November 17, 2020.
• Commission -At -Large has four (4) nominations for seats currently :5
1. Patrick Cohen, alternate incumbent, whose term expired on November 20, 2019.
2. Francisco Herretes, incumbent, whose term expired on November 20, 2019.
3. Juan Valadez, alternate incumbent, whose term expired on November 20, 2019.
4. Vacant, Alternate (Miami -Dade County Public Schools Representative).
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the enabling ordinance of said board. By copy of
this memorandum to the Agenda Office, we are requesting that this issue be placed on the February
9, 2023, Commission agenda.
