HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0445oil J-90-352 4/26/90 RESOLUTION NO. 9 0 — 445 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI HERITAGE CONSERVATION BOARD. WHEREAS, the Heritage Conservation Board was established by Ordinance No. 9426, dated May 27, 1982, to recommend properties for designation as historic sites, historic districts, and archeological zones, to approve or deny Certificates of Appropriateness and to review development plans in environmentally significant areas of the City; and WHEREAS, it is intended that members of the Heritage Conservation Board shall be persons of knowledge, experience, mature judgment and. background, having ability and desire to act in the public interest and representing the various special professional training, experience, and interests required to make informed and equitable decisions concerning conversation and protection of the physical environment; and WHEREAS, there are ourrently three (3) vacancies on the Heritage Conservation Board, which vacancies were formerly filled by Jose Gelabert-Navies (restoration architeot/architectural historian); Robert Fitzsimmons (business and finance or. Law); and Marwin Cassel (citizen); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following persons are hereby appointed as members of the City of Miami Heritage Conservation Board in the listed categories to serve in the designated positions and for the speoified terms of office: RICIiARD HEISENBOTTLE Resolution Architect/Architectural Historian member, to serve a regular term expiring December 31, 1992. Appointments to Fill Vacancies on Heritage Conservation Board REFERENCES: City Commission Agenda of April 12, 1990 ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that three (3) members be appointed to fill vacancies in three categories on the Heritage Conservation Board based upon names and qualifications submitted to the City Clerk, per the attached resolution. -- BACKGROUND: The Planning Department services the Heritage Conservation Board. The Heritage Conservation Board currently has three (3) vacancies. These vacancies are due to the expiration of the terms of Jose Gelabert-Navia, Robert Fitzsimmons and Marwin Cassel. Persons appointed to the Board must qualify under specific professions related to the Board's responsibilities and must have submitted applications to the City Clerk. Terms of office are for three (3) years. The vacant categories include the following: Registered Architect or architectural historian having demonstrated knowledge and experience in architectural restoration and historic preservation. Person experienced in the field of business and finance or law. Citizen with demonstrated knowledge and interest in the historical and architectural heritage of the C:ty and/or conservation -f the natural environment. Shchan Ro,w %wtu Ms. Bondurant has served as a full-time volunteer for Dade Heritage Trust, the County's largest historic preservation organization, for the last three years. Her interest in preservation has involved her in many activities throughout Dade County so that she is aware of the difficulties often faced in saving and protecting our rich and culturally diverse heritage. The interest Ms. Bondurant has in preservation of our historic sites and architecture extends beyond her involvement as a volunteer for DHT. She attends meetings of the City Commission, Planning and Zoning Boards and Heritage Conservation Board to support historic preservation and to keep abreast of the activities in the community which could affect the status and focus of preservation in the City of Miami and Dade County. This year Ms. Bondurant is the Chairman of Dade Heritage Days 1990, a six -week, cross-cultural festival taking plaice all over Dade County. Her co-ordination of the over 35 participating organizations for this Festival speak highly of her ability.
