HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0443or I 05/08/9u RESOLUTION NO. 90- 4 4 3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FUNDING FOR A CITY OF MIAMI POLICE EXPLORERS PROGRAM AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $36,822, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH COSTS HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti --drug education purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department continues to have a commitment to the education and development of the youth of our community; and WHEREAS, the objective of the Explorers Program is to provide the youth of the Miami area an opportunity to gain and insight into a career in law enforcement; and WHEREAS, the Explorers Program is designed to instill within the Explorers a genuine desire to demonstrate desirable habits, attitudes, and efforts to become contributing members of society; and WHEREAS, the Explorers also fulfill an important role in the drug awareness and prevention movement by informing their peers about the perils of substance abuse; and WHEREAS, any equipment/services purchases will still be required to go through the established procurement procedures; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statute 932.7U4, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this Program are available in the City of Miami Lana Enforcement Trust Fund; CITY COM14ISSION METING OF JU N 7 1990 90- 44S 0 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recital.:; and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The establishment of a City of Miami Police Explorers Program is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $36,822, being hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 290904-996, such costs having been approved by the Chief of Police. SUBJECT: Resolution For The Funding of an Explorer Program REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that a resolution be passed for the funding of an Explorer Program at an estimated cost of $36,822. Funding is to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund. The Miami Police Department is committed to the education and development of the youth of our city. The objective of the Miami Police Explorer Program is to provide the young men and women of the Miami area an opportunity to gain an insight into a career in .law enforcement. This program is designed to stimulate interest in further training and education for a law enforcement career as well as develop character and good attitudes toward the law enforcement community. It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the funding for the Explorer Program, at an estimated cost of $36,822, funding to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Pro'ect No. 690001, Index Code 2909014-996, be approved. 90- 443 D'3­1 AFFIDAVIT I, Perry L.
