SUBJECT: Recommendation for a
Resolution Authorizing the
Sponsorship of the Fla.
REFERENC&ave Drum & Bugle Corps
ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution allocating
funds and authorizing the sponsorship of the Florida Wave Drum
and Bugle Corps, in the amount of $25,000, be approved.
The Police Department continues to support those organizations
that strive to offer the youth of our community an alternative to
drug abuse. The Florida wave Drum and Bugle Corps has been
providing low income high school students, aged 14-17, just such
an alternative for 60 years. Fifty percent of those individuals
involved in the program come from City of Miami schools.
The Corp will enhance the reputation of the City and of the
Police Department by prominently displaying the City's logos and
messages on its buses and trucks and carrying the City's banners
in all of its competitions across 36 states and 11,000 miles of
the country. In addition, the Corps will march in the King
Orange Parade, the Pig Bowl Halftime Show, Calle Ocho, and any
other major events that the City may sponsor. The Corps will, of
course, carry the City of Miami Police Department's banners in
these events.
It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution allocating
funds and authorizing the sponsorship of the Florida wave Drum
and Bugle Corps, at a cost of $25,000, funding to be provided
from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index
Code 029002-247, be approved.
