HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0483v -I J-90-599 6/28/90 t RESOLUTION NO. — A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE 1990 U.S. ROWING MASTERS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE CONDUCTED AT THE MARINE STADIUM ON _ AUGUST 17-19, 1990, THEREBY WAIVING.4iE COSTS OF THE USE OF THE MARINE STADIUM AND MOBILE PRESS TRAILER; AUTHORIZING THE PROVISION OF IN -KIND SERVICES FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE, FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES, SOLID WASTE AND GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION IN CONNECTION WITH SAID EVENT. WHEREAS, the 1990 U.S. Rowing Masters National Championships will be held at the Marine Stadium August 17-19, 1990; and WHEREAS, over 1,000 men and women participants and an estimated 2,000 attendees and family members from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Peru will attend this event in Miami; and WHEREAS, the average stay of each participant and attendee will be approximately three to five days and rooms have been blocked for said participants and attendees at six (6) major hotels within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the 1990 U.S. Rowing Masters National Championships will have an estimated economic impact in the Miami area of over $3.7 million; and WHEREAS, in conjunction with this event, the City of Miami has been selected as the site of the 1991 FISA11 World Veterans Regatta with an expected attendance of over 2,500 participants and an additional 5,000 attendees and family members, with an estimated economic impact of over $8.8 million in the Miami area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: This acronym stands for Federation Internationale Society 'd' Aviron. The costa of using the Marine Stadium and mobile press trailer are hereby waived for the 1990 U.S. Rowing Masters National Championships to be conducted at the Marine -T Stadium August 17-19, 1990. Section 2. The provision of in -kind services from the _ Department of Police, Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services, Solid Waste and General Administration Services is hereby authorized in connection with the above event. Section 3. WE HAVE HIRED THE SERVICES OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE MANAGEMENT TO NEGOTIATE RATES WITH 140TELS AND AIRLINES AND HANDLE RESERVATIONS. 2. WE HAVE BLOCKED 800 ROOMS AT DUPONT PLAZA, INTERCONTINENTAL, HOWARD JOHNSON, SHERATON BRICKELL, SONESTA BEACH AND SHERATON KEY BISCAYNE. 3. WE HAVE OBTAINED REDUCED AIRFARES'WI.TH PAN AM FOR ALL COMPETITORS AND THEIR FAMILIES. 4. WE WILL HOLD A COCKTAIL PARTY AT BAYSIDF ON AUGUST 16. BACARDI WILL BE THE SPONSOR. 5. WE WILL HAVE A BANQUET ON AUGUST 18 FOR 300 PEOPLE AT THE RUSTY PELICAN. 6. WE HAVE PURCHASED AN "ALBANO COURSE SYSTEM" AT A COST OF $32,80. WE TRIED IT AT THE INTERNATIONAL REGATTA LAST APRIL AND WORKED VERY WELL. THE SYSTEM CAN BE STORED AND REUSED EVERY YEAR. 7. WE HAVE ASKED PAN AM FOR 20 ROUNDTRIP TICKETS TO ITALY (SEPTEMBER 14-16) TO ATTEND THE 1990 FISH WORLD REGATTA AND PROMOTE OUR 1991 FISA EVENT. NO RESPONSE FROM PAN AM AS OF THIS DATE. 8. WE HAVE PURCHASED A P.A. SYSTEM THAT MAY BE USED FROM THE MARINE STADIUM OR THE MRC CLUBHOUSE 9. THE FOLLOWING CORPORATIONS HAVE AGREED TO BE CORPORATE SPONSORS OF THE EVENT ($5,000 TO $16,000. EACH.) WE HAVE SOLD 12 AT $250.00 EACH. 10. WE HAVE PURCHASED A COMPUTER AND DATA BASE TO HANDLE ENTRIES, REGISTRATION, REGATTA RESULTS ETC. 11. WE ARE WORKING WITH PAN AM AND PEPSICO INTERNATIONAL TO INVITE EASTERN EUROPEAN NATIONS TO THE 1991 FISA REGATTA AND INCLUDE TRANSPORTATION AND HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS. AT THIS POINT WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE IN SCHEDULING A MEETING AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE WITH VARIOUS CITY OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING AREAS AND IH—KIND SERVICES: 1.
