HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0550J=90-650 7/12/90 RESOLUTION NO. 9 0- 550 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE USE OF STREETS AND THOROUGHFARES DURING THE LAWTON CHILES GUBERNATORIAL CAMPAIGN WALK TO BE CONDUCTED BY PHILLIP HAMERSMITH, INC. AND ASSOCIATES ON AUGUST 25, 1990 BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 6:30 A:M TO 1000 A.M. SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON SAID STREETS; CONDITIONED UPON THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE CITY WILL BE INSURED AGAINST ANY POTENTIAL LIABILITY AND THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section I. The use of streets and thoroughfares in Miami on August 25, 1990 between the hours of 6:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. during the Lawton Chiles Gubernatorial Campaign walk to be conducted by Phillip Hamersmith, Inc. and Associates is hereby approved subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Section 2. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the walk as specified below: Commencing at Dixie Highway (US 1) and Douglas Road Northeast on Dixie Highway to Southwest Sixteenth Avenue North on Sixteenth Avenue to Southwest Third Avenue (Coral Way) East on Third Avenue to Southwest Twelfth Avenue North on Twelfth Avenue to Southwest Eighth Street East on Southwest Eighth Street to Brickell Avenue North on Brickell Avenue to Biscayne Boulevard Way East on Biscayne Boulevard Way to Biscayne Boulevard Across Biscayne Boulevard to the Bayfront Park Amphitheater. m r Section 3 • The partial use of streets clt�ring said "I' is �. rovedr subject to the exercise of complete control over hereby alp a 11 due lyingt. PLORIDA 334i - PWNR (306) fSS-4604 I`AX (305) 673,4028 June 15, 1990 Mr. Cesar Odio 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 Dear Mr. Odio: On August 25, 1990, the Lawton Chiles Gubernatorial Campaign will hold a major walk through Miami which will begin in the grassy area beside the Metro rail on Douglas Road and.U.S. 1 and end up with a rally in Bayfront Ampitheatre. We are expecting upwards of 2,000 people showing up to participate in this event. We will begin securing the staging area and setting up at 6:30 a.m. with the walk officially beginning at 8:20 a.m. Starting from Douglas Road and U.S. 1, the procession shall. make its way along U.S. 1 to 16th Avenue --making a left onto 16th Avenue and continuing until Beber Silverstein at 3361 SW 3rd Avenue (this is the first "Rest Area".) From Beber Silverstein, the walk will continue up 12th Avenue to SW 8 St., making a right until 6th Avenue is reached. The Little Havana Activities Center is the second "Rest Area" --it is located on SW 8-Street and.6 Avenue. From the Activities Center, the walk will proceed to the final large rally at the Bayfront Ampitheatre by taking.6th Avenue to Flagler Street, crossing the bridge down Flagler, and finally crossing Biscayne to reach the Ampitheatre. The program at the Ampitheatre is expected to begin at 10:40 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m. Can you please ensure that we are on the City Commission's Agenda for its July 12 meeting.
