HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0537J-90-650 7/12/90 RESOLUTION NO. 9 o - 537 A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENSURE THAT MIAMI HIGH SCHOOL IS ABLE TO PLAY ITS FOUR SCHEDULED FOOTBALL GAMES IN 1990 AT THE ORANGE BOWL STADIUM; ADDITIONALLY ENSURING THAT NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL AND JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL ARE ABLE TO PLAY ONE GAME EACH IN 1990 AT THE ORANGE BOWL STADIUM IF THEY SHOULD SO REQUEST, PROVIDED SCHEDULING OF SAID GAMES DOES NOT CONFLICT WITH PRESENTLY SCHEDULED ORANGE BOWL EVENTS; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO WAIVE THE RENTAL FEES AND TO IDENTIFY AND MAKE AVAILABLE WHATEVER FUNDS MAY BE NECESSARY TO COVER THE COSTS FOR SAID GAMES (APPROXIMATELY $1,100 TICKET SURCHARGE AND $4,100 GENERAL EXPENSE FOR EACH OF THE SIX GAMES), PREFERABLY FROM SOURCES OTHER THAN THE GENERAL FUND; FURTHER APPROVING SPECIAL CHARGES, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS AS SHALL BE SET FORTH IN A USE AGREEMENT ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY FOR THE USE OF THE ORANGE4 BOWL STADIUM BY MIAMI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE SUCH USE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI AND MIAMI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. WHEREAS, the Department of Conferences, Conventions, and Public Facilities is responsible for the operation of the Orange Bowl Stadium and attempts to secure the presentation of athletic events for the community; and WHEREAS, Miami Senior High School has played its home - football games in the Orange Bowl Stadium for over fifty years and wishes to continue this tradition; and WHEREAS, Northwestern High School and Jackson High School may also request to play one football game each at the Orange 9 -� Bowl Stadium in 1990; and - WHEREAS, it has been recommended that the stadium rental fees be waived for these games, thereby providing a community service to local youth, and those rental fees are being waived by this Commission; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is being directed to ensure that: provided there is no conflict with presently scheduled Orange Of JUL33 _ 30� womw f 1 £ 1- Rowl ovonts t all those schools are able to play audh six ga a lit the orange Bowl Stadium, if the latter two schools should each rawest to play one game at said Stadium; and r WHEIREAS, the schools shall be responsible for the payment of polipst^.personnel for the games; and WEREAS, the City Manager is being directed to identify and : �c. make funds availableto cover the ticket surcharge, event personnel, cleanup, and field lighting, preferably from sources other than the General Fund; and WHEREAS, Section 53-131 (C)(7) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, provides that the City Commission has the right to establish and fix special charges or special terms and conditions for the use of the stadium;; _ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE. COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adoOpted by reference thereto and. incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Special charges, terms, and conditions as shall be set forth in a use agreement acceptable to the City Attorney for the use of the Orange 1Bowl Stadium by Miami Senior High School are hereby approved for said Schools presentation of four scheduled football games in 1990, with the City Manager being hereby authorized to execute such use agreementbetween` r the City of Miami and Miami Senior High School. s Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. r �a.
