HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0519h,u d Ja9t��5�4 RROt)TfONti. 9 0- 519 v j 1 # �FX e A REStiWTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A RENTAL REHABILITATION PROGRAM GRANT FOR FY 1990 IN THE AMOUNT OF $585r000 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) FOR THE PURPOSE OF INCREASING THE SUPPLY OF STANDARD HOUSING AFFORDABLE TO LOWER INCOME FAMILIES IN THE CITY.` WHEREAS, Section 17 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 establishes a program known as the Rental Rehabilitation Program to increase the supply of affordable, standard housing for lowest income families; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is experiencing a severe rental housing shortage affordable to lower income families; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated $585,000 for FY 1990 of Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant funds to the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, a Rental Rehabilitation Program description was submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ,r on April 23, 1990 and thereafter approved; and n WHEREAS, the federal assistance in the amount of $585,000 §< will be used to finance the rehabilitation of substandard multifamily rental housing units located in the City's Community Development Target Areas in an effort to increase the supply of standard housing affordable to lower income families; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: r Section 1. The City Manager, as chief administrative officer for the City of Miami, is hereby authorized to accept the Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant for FY 1990 from the U.S. } Department of Housing and Urban Development for $585,000. t ,a Section 2. Od i O REFERENCES City Manager City Commission Agenda ENCLOSURES:item July 12, 1990 RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept a Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant for Fiscal Year 1990 in the amount of $585,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, for the purpose of increasing the supply of affordable, standard rental .housing for lower income families in 3 the City of Miami. s BACKGROUND The Department of Development and Housing Conservation recommends that the City Commission approve the attached ,resolution- authorizing- the City Manager to accept a Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant for Fiscal Year 1990 in the amount of $585,000 .from the U.S. Department' of Housing and Urban Development, for the purpose of increasing the supply of affordable, standard rental ' housing for lower income families in the City of Miami. The Rental- Rehabilitation Program provides rental rehabilitation grants to units of local government to assist- in ' f financing, the cost of the rehabilitation of privately owned rental housing developments. In an attempt to insure the availability ,of 'these urii'ts to lower income families, the Program requires that the dwelling units to be rehAbilitated y° 'be occupied principally -by lower income families..
