HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0490ff /2/9V RESOLUTION NO. 9 0— 490 A RESOLUTION CATEGORIZING CERTAIN SURPLUS PROPERTY AS CATEGORY "A" STOCK AND AUTHORIZING ITS DISPOSITION BY GIFT, TO THOSE ORGANIZATIONS EXHIBITING A LEGITIMATE NEED WHICH ARE APPROVED 13Y THE POLICE CHIEF. WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department has surplus property that has been seized or abandoned and whose title now vests in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the Department has experienced a growing problem in the storage of this property, particularly with regard to bicycles; and WHEREAS, the property to be disposed of has little or no value to the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, numerous charitable organizations routinely contact the Department with requests for donations of this type of property, and it is appropriate to categorize this property as Category "A" Stock for disposition as set forth herein; and WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department has donated property to many organizations in the past; and i WHEREAS, property would still be maintained in a manner which complies with all local and state laws; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to dispose of surplus property, which is hereby categorized as Category "A" Stock, by gift to those charitable organizations exhibiting a legitimate need which are approved by the Police Chief. Much of this property is of little or no value to the City of Miami. However, the Police Department receives numerous requests for donations of just this type of property. The primary request is for bicycles but often times request$ are made for other. types of property. in an effort to' alleviate. a serious storage problem, dispose of property 4. currently deteriorating in the Police Department auto pound, and to enhance the image oaf the Police Department in the eyes of=ths commun.ityr. it is requested that the Chief of Police be authorized r to donate this surplus property to deserving charities. it is, therefore, respectfully recommended that the Resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to dispose of surplus property by means of donation,"be granted. r � h y x 5 t
