City Manager DATE: FILE: FROM: A'Llt-' Miller J. Dawkins Vice Mayor Toxic Waste and SUBJECT: pollution in the Park West Overtown Area REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES; We are attempting to acquire other tracts of land to complete the parcel that we have designed for development. We are finding toxic waste and pollution on a number of the small ones. Please schedule for discussion at the November commission meeting, why all of the Overtown Park West cannot be treated as one and not have separate agreements. I will be recommending that all lands, especially Overtown area, be treated the same as the City treated lands owned by Camillus House. We said that the City of Miami would be responsible for removing toxic waste and go after people who polluted the lands. By copy of this memorandum I am requesting that the City of Miami have legislation ready for the November meeting to do this. The continuation of this project is very, very important, if we do not acquire the lands we are seeking, then the money spent already may be down the drain. If we can condemn the properties then the clean up responsibilities will be ours, so we may as well go ahead and remove the toxic waste and go after the respective owners. cc: Hon. Mayor Xavier L.
