RESOLUTION NO. 9 0 - 903
A RESOLUTION APPROVING CERTAIN NOMINEES
HONORED AND TO BE HONORED WITH THE
INSTALLATION OF A PLAQUE ON THE "LATIN STARS
WALK".
WHEREAS, a certain covenant to run with the land, jointly
prepared by the Public Works and Law Departments, was entered
into on March 16, 1989, between the City of Miami and Latin
Stars, Inc., which granted Latin Stars, Inc. the right to inlay
decorative plaques in the sidewalk area of Southwest 8th Street
and set forth certain terms and conditions that would be required
by the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami, Florida,
adopted Resolution No. 89-708, on July 27, 1989, which Resolution
approved, in principle, the inlaying of plaques along Southwest
8th Street between Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest 17th
Avenue to honor international artists, sports figures and
outstanding individuals of the Latin Community, hereinafter
called the "Latin Stars Walk", with the implementation of same
being subject to the approval of the City Administration; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration has issued permits for the
installation of nineteen (19) plaques honoring certain
individuals of the Latin Community to begin the "Latin Stars
Walk" project and the installation of sixteen (16) plaques have
been successfully installed to date; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami, Florida,
adopted Resolution No. 90-523, on July 12, 1990, which Resolution
approved the implementation of a proposed plan, in a form

acceptable to the City Attorney, for the "Latin Stars Walk" and
further required that all "Latin Star" nominees be approved by
the City Commission prior to the issuance of permits by the City;
and
WHEREAS, notwithstanding the nineteen (19) permits
previously issued implementing the "Latin Stars Walk" project, it
is now in order to approve the nominees submitted by Latin Stars,
Inc. to be honored by a plaque.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The existing plaques in the sidewalk areas of
Southwest 8th Street honoring international artists, sports
figures and outstanding individuals of the Latin Community
installed by Latin Stars, Inc. as part of the "Latin Stars Walk"
with names shown below are hereby approved:

Section 3. The names of international artists, sports
figures and outstanding individuals of the Latin Community
submitted by Latin Stars, Inc. to be honored in the future with

The purpose of the November 8, 1990 discussion item is to
consider a list of nominees, submitted by Latin Stars, Inc„ to
be honored by a decorative plaque placed in the sidewalk area of
Southwest 8th Street between Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest
17th Avenue.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works has successfully worked with Latin
Stars, Inc. with the installation of 16 decorative plaques in the
sidewalk area of Southwest 8th Street honoring international
artists, sports figures and outstanding individuals of the Latin
community. To date 19 permits have been issued to Latin Stars,
Inc. for installation of the decorative plaques with three of the
installations being held in abeyance until such time as the
honorees are approved by the City Commission.
The first decorative plaque (honoring Gloria Estefan) was
Installed under a Covenant Agreement with Latin Stars, Inc. This
document, jointly prepared by the Law Department and Public Works
Department, along with Resolution No. 89-708 were the bases for
the installation of all the existing plaques on Southwest 8th
Street.
The purpose of this item is to consider the list of nominees,
submitted by Latin Stars, Inc., that IIdVe already been honored by
decorative plaques installed on Southwest 8th Street and to
further consider future nominees to be hundred by a plaque.
Attached 1s suggested legislation should the City Commission
decide to act upon this item.
