HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-90-0856J-90-929 10/29/90 RESOLUTION NO. 9 0 "' 8 5 G A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE USE OF CERTAIN STREETS AND THOROUGHFARES IN THE COCONUT GROVE AREA DURING THE ECKERD/MAGNAVISION "BABY BOOMER" 10K AND 5K ROAD RACE, TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI RUNNERS CLUB ON DECEMBER 2, 1990 BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:00 A.M. AND 11:00 A.M.; SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE RACE COURSE; CONDITIONED UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR THE NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Miami Runners Club is requesting the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race to be held December 2, 1990 from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.; and WHEREAS, the restrictions imposed by Ordinance No. 10764 as to the limitation of. the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply to the Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race, since this event has been held in the past in the Coconut Grove area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on December 2, 1990, between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. is hereby authorized. Section 2. The herein approval is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF NOV 8 1990 RE€O UTION ao - 856 1 } Section 3. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the race course. Said road race will begin at Pan American Drive and proceed through Bayshore Drive, McFarlane Road, Grand Avenue, McDonald Street, Oak Avenue, Tigertail Avenue, Aviation Avenue, Swanson Avenue, Kirk Street, Shore Drive and back to Bayshore Drive, concluding at Peacock Park. Section 4. Such authorization is hereby subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee and paying for all necessary costs of City services associated with said event. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K REFERENCES: Road Race Commission Agenda Item ENCLOSURES: November 8, 1990 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the use of certain streets for the Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on Sunday, December. 2, 1990 from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the Eckerd/Magnavision "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on Sunday, December. 2, 1990. The organizers have met with the Special Events Committee and have drafted a course with the Police Department in order to minimize traffic disruption during the race. The limitations on the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply in this case, since the aforementioned event has been held in the Grove in the past.
