AND 11:00 A.M.; SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE RACE COURSE; CONDITIONED UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Miami Runners Club will conduct the Orange Bowl 10K Race on December 29, 1990; and WHEREAS the Miami Runners Club has requested the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in Coconut Grove to conduct the aforementioned event between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.; and WHEREAS, the restrictions imposed by Ordinance No. 10764 as to the limitation of the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply to the Orange Bowl 10K Race, since this event has been held in the past in the Coconut Grove area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The use of streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area on December 29, 1990 between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. during the Orange Bowl 10K Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club is hereby approved. Section 2. The herein approval is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the race course as follows: South Bayshore Drive to McFarlane Avenue. McFarlane Avenue from South Bayshore Drive to Main Highway. Main Highway from McFarlane Avenue to Douglas Road. Douglas Road from Main Highway to North Prospect. North Prospect from Douglas Road to Pullen Avenue. Pullen Avenue from North Prospect to South Prospect. South Prospect from Pullen Avenue to Douglas Road. Douglas Road from South Prospect to Edgewater. Edgewater from Douglas Road to Ingraham Highway. Section 4. The herein authorizations are hereby conditioned upon organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee and paying for all necessary costs of City services and applicable fees. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: CAwl I DATE : M rST 3I� O 1990 FILE SUBJECT Resolution for the Use of Certain Streets/Orange Bowl 10K Race REFERENCES : Commission Agenda Item ENCLOSURES: November S, 1990 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the use of certain streets in the Coconut Grove area in connection with the Orange Bowl 10K Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club, Saturday, December 29, 1990 between the hours of 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. This authorization is further conditioned upon the organizers paying for any costs of City services and applicable fees and the requirement that the City will be insured against any potential liability. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing the use of certain streets in Coconut Grove in connection with the Orange Bowl 10K Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club, Saturday, December 29, 1990. The organizers have met with the Special Events Committee and have worked with the Police Department to design a race course that minimizes the disruption of traffic in the area. The limitations on the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply in this case, since the aforementioned event has been held in the Grove in the past.
