RESOLUTION NO. 9 0- 9 5 9
A RESOLUTION RELATED TO A TENNIS STREET MATCH
TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE LIPTON INTERNATIONAL
TENNIS TOURNAMENT, ON MARCH 12, 1991;
AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS
TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC; SUBJECT TO THE
ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF
POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION
SERVICES AND SUBJECT TO THE ORGANIZERS
OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN
THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER
OR HIS DESIGNEE AND UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING
FOR ALL THE NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the
Lipton International Tennis Street Match, the following streets
are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic on March 12, 1991,
from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. as specified below:
West Flagler Street from Northwest Miami Court to
Northwest First Avenue.
Included in the herein closure are all streets,
avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect
the enumerated areas delineated in this Section.
Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to State
approval and the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police
and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the
Department of Police is to be issued upon full approval of the
Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety
and traffic needs of residents, businesses, and religious
institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said
arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's
judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein.
Section 3. The herein approvals are hereby conditioned
upon the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in
the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee and
paying for all the necessary costs of City services.

Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

On behalf of The Lipton International Tennis Tournament I wish to
make a personal appearance before the County Commission, on
December h, 1 94, 41 to apply for a street. closure permit.
We are planning on conducting our promotional "Street Match," as
we did last year. The event will be held, Tuesday March 12, 1991.
Our anplJration for the permit Is for the same streets, W.
Flagler Street, from the western most part of NW Miami Court to
the eastern most part of NW 1st avenue. We would however, like to
adJusi the i imr- of cloture from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm.
Off duty police officers will be hired to assist with traffic
control and general security. Lipton Sports will be responsible
for providing all traffic safety devices including traffic
barricades, French barricades etc.
We would also like permission to part: work vehicles on NW Miami
Court between W. Flagler Street and NW 1 street within loading
zones.
Our "Street Match" is a tennis exhibition for one hour from 12
noon till 1.00 pm. This promotion for the Lipton Tennis
Tournament features local dignitaries, media personalities, and
at least two of the top 10 ranked womens tennis players in the
world. last vFar approximately one thousand people came out to
watch the event.
Iasi year N10tro Dade County Manager Joaquin Avino and City of
Afiami Miiyor Xavier Suarez teamed with Gabriela Sabatini and
Billie .Iran King to help male this event a tremendous public
relations success.
