A RESOLUTION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), APPROVING
THE PROPOSAL BY THE KIWANIS CLUB OF LITTLE
HAVANA TO REMOVE 75 EXISTING BLACK OLIVE
TREES ALONG SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET BETWEEN
SOUTHWEST 12TH AVENUE AND SOUTHWEST 27TH
AVENUE AND TO DONATE AND PLANT 232 ROYAL PALM
TREES AND 68 GOLDEN TRUMPET TREES TO REPLACE
THE SAID BLACK OLIVE TREES IN THAT AREA AND
IN OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE LITTLE HAVANA
NEIGHBORHOOD, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ATTACHED
SCHEDULE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ASSIST THE KIWANIS CLUB'OF LITTLE
HAVANA, INCLUDING THE USE OF CITY FORCES, IN
ACCOMPLISHING THE REMOVAL OF SAID BLACK OLIVE
TREES AND THE PLANTING OF THE 300 DONATED
TREES.
WHEREAS, Southwest 8th Street is the gateway to the Little Havana
neighborhood of the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has been the
sponsor and active force behind the planting of numerous trees
along Southwest 8th Street; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana wishes to expand
its program to plant trees along Southwest 8th Street by removing
the 75 existing Black Olive trees on Southwest 8th Street between
Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest 27th Avenue and replacing
them with Royal Palm trees; and
WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana agrees to donate
and plant 232 Royal Palm trees and 68 Golden Trumpet trees in
accordance with the attached schedule, 75 of the Royal Palm trees
along Southwest 8th Street, to replace said removed Black Olive
trees between Southwest 12th and 27th Avenues; and

WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that the herein proposal
is in the best interest of the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section I. The recitals and findings set forth in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The proposal by the Kiwanis Club of Little
Havana to remove approximately 75 existing Black Olive trees
along Southwest 8th Street between Southwest 12th Avenue and
Southwest 27th Avenue and replace them with Royal Palm trees is
hereby approved in accordance with the findings as set forth in
Section 1 hereof.
Section 3. The donation from the Kiwanis Club of Little
Havana to provide and plant 232 Royal Palm trees and 68 Golden
Trumpet trees, in accordance with the attached schedule, is
hereby approved and accepted.
Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
assist the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, including the use of
City forces, in accomplishing the removal of said Black Olive
trees and the planting of the 300 donated trees.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

I am hereby respectfully requesting, on behalf of our
organization, the inclusion in the personal appearance
section of the Agenda for the City Commission meeting
of June 13th, the presentation of our proposal for
the installation of royal palm trees in the Little
Havana section.
As you will recall, the Mayor and the Commissioners
requested that you include it thirty,ldays from the
meeting of May 9th and therefore, is a confirmation
of such request.
Please advise of any further information you may need
prior to the meeting.
