Johnson In November of 1989, the City Commission awarded the Black Archives Treasurer $66,000.00 for the reconstruction of the Historic Dorsey House. In Theodora W. Cooper IM, additional funds In the amount of $40,000.00 were secured from Member -At -Large Metro -Dade County. Because of the unforeseen conditions, funds In the M.AdudieRange amount of $55,000.00 are still required to complete the project. Member -At -Large Rachel C. After demo i i t i on costs and architectural fees, the Black LeomeS.Culmer Archives has $89,000.00 to complete the project. An additional Dorothy Jenkins Fields $55,000.00 is needed due to: (1) the Increase In the cost of Enid C.Johnson materials since the original reconstruction estimate, (11) the JuaAbertD.Mta Johnson Albert D. Moore necessity of Job site security. M. Athalie Range Guth C.Reeves The Dorsey House is an Important community project. Once completed, Mahan H. Shannon the Dorsey House will be used as a museum for Inner-city youth and Dr. Horace Jerome Traylor members of the ceamunity-at-large who wish to learn more about Gwendolyn H. Welters Dr. Daniel T. Williams Overtown's vibrant past. As a part of the developing Historic Rachel C.Wuliams Overtown Folkl ife Village, the Dorsey House will also provide employment opportunities for individuals In Overtown. The Black Archives respectfully request that additional funding for the Dorsey House be placed on the City Commission's July 10, 1"1 agenda. If monies are not received within the next 30 days, reconstruction will cease. Stopping the reconstruction at this phase will be an Invitation for vandalism. The Black Archives has been working with the City of Miami on this project for over five years. To see the project fail at this stage would not only be a disservice to the youth of Overtown but the entire City of Miami as well.
