Od i o REFERENCES a City Manager ENCLOSURES Commissioner Winn will chair an important workshop for all elected officials in Dade County at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 19, 1991, in the Dade County Commission Chambers to finalize County Commission District lines. Each elected official will receive a letter from the County pertaining to this workshop. The Commission will then vote on this issue at its regularly scheduled meeting the following Tuesday, July 23. Based upon a presentation at the Dade League of Cities meeting Wednesday, July 10, Miami is one of three municipalities that still have district lines conflicts. However, I am aware that many of: you — have expressed concerns regarding the drawing of district and regional boundaries. In an effort4accomodate your concerns, = cordially invite all of you to participate in a workshop concerning the drawing of district and regional boundaries on Friday, July 19, 1991 at 1:30 p.m. in -the Commission Chambers. The workshop will be chaired by Commissioner Sherman Winn, Chairman of the Internal Management Committee. As you may know, preliminary district and regional boundaries have been drawn by Professor Allen Lichtman, the County's hired expert, according to proportional representation" standards, as required by Section 2 of The voting Rights A,Ct of 1965. The purpose of this workshop is to specifically consider adjustments to the preliminary district and regional boundaries in relation to respecting municipal boundaswlaa, communities of interest and o;hex reapportionment issues. Charter reform is a critical issue for Dade county. I hope that all of you will join us and participate in this workshop on the 19th.
