Resolution
The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the
Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the
codesignation of S.W. 17 Avenue from South Dixie Highway to South
Bayshore Drive as "Alice Wainwright Way". In addition, it is
recommended that the City Commission waive all fees and expenses for
the Codesignation of "Alice Wainwright Way".
BACKGROUND:
In compliance with the motion 91-347 made on May 9, 1991, the City
Commission requested to codesignate a street for the late Alice
Wainwright.
Alice Wainwright was the first woman to serve as a Miami City
Commissioner, serving from 1961 to 1965. During her term as
Commissioner, Mrs. Wainwright led the movement to raise funds for
construction of the sewage treatment plant on Virginia Key. Alice
Wainwright dedicated much of her life to the enhancement of our
environment and to the preservation of the quality of life in South
Florida.
Expenses, however, will be incurred for the physical manufacture and
installation of the signs. Therefore, these expenses must be paid
through our "Special Programs and Accounts Contingent Fund, FY'1990-
91" as explained in the attached resolution.
