CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE
ORDER FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.

WHEREAS, the Department of General Services. Administration
and Solid Waste wishes to purchase additional recycling trucks_
under an existing City of Lauderhill Bid from Casso Equipment
I
Inc., at a total proposed cost of $162,810.00; and

WHEREAS, these vehicles are needed to provide additional

support for the expansion of the City of Miami's residential

recycling program and, with the addition of these trucks, weekly

curbside _recycling services would be provided to approximately
50,000 homes or 90% of the City; and
WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available from the
1990-91 Solid Waste Reduction, Recycling & Education Grant Fund,

WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Administrator of the

RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution for the purchase of three (3) curbside
recycling collection vehicles and one (1) aluminum cage as a
spare to provideadditional support for the expansion of the
City residential recycling ,program, to' be awarded t0 Cesso
Equipment Sales, Inc., a non-minority/non-local vendor
headquartered in Pompano Beach, Florida under an existing City of
Lauderhill, Florida Bid. These vehicles will provide an
efficient source in separating the collection of recyclable
materials. With the addition of these trucks, weekly curbside
recycling services would be provided to approximately 50,000
homes or 90% of the City. The total proposed cost of this
purchase is $162,810.00 for which funds are available from the
1990-91 Solid Waste Reduction: Recycling and Education Special
-Revenue Grant Fund, Project No. 197001, Account Code No. 320306-
840.
BACKGROUND
The Department of General Services Administration and Solid Waste
recommends that this bid be award to Casso Equipment' Sales, Inc."
of Pompano Beach, Florida, as the most responsible and responsive
bidder. The selected vehicle is deemed to be in the best, 'long
term interest of the City on the basis of its unique design. for
collection of recyclables and its adaptive use for other waste
collection applications. The selected vehicle will help minimize
short term operating costs enhancing the overall feasibility of
the City recycling effort. These recycling vehicles are urgently
f.'
required in order to better ensure a quality recycling service to
residents and to meet the high participation rates that, are,
presently being experienced in the residential 9P9
rec clip program'.
