HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-91-071413 r] J-91-760 9/23/91 RESOLUTION NO. 714 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A FEDERAL LABOR- MANAGEMENT COOPERATION PROGRAM GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $62.088: AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE FEDERAL MEDIATION AND CONCILIATION SERVICE FOR THE CITY TO PROVIDE LABOR-MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE SUPPORT SERVICES IN CONNECTION WITH SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami has applied for a federal grant under the Labor -Management Cooperation Act of 1978 to provide assistance in the City's establishment and operation of labor- management committees; and WHEREAS, said federal grant, in the amount of $62,088, has been awarded to the City of Miami by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service; and WHEREAS, required matching funds for said grant in the amount of $18,546 are available in the budgeted funds of the Office of the City Manager; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A federal grant in the amount of $62,088 is hereby accepted to provide assistance in the establishment and operation of City labor-management committees. Section 3. Section 4. Required matching funds for said grant in the amount of $18,546 are hereby allocated from budgeted funds of the Office of the City Manager. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. Odio REFERENCES City Manager ENCLOSURES RECOMMENDATION: - It is respectfully recommended that a resolution accepting a grant in the amount of $62,088 from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service be adopted by the City Commission. BACKGROUND: In an effort to continuously improve communication between labor and management, the administration applied for a grant from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). FMCS has now awarded the City a grant in the amount of $62,088 to provide assistance in the establishment and operation of labor-management committees created for the purpose of improving labor-management relationships and general organizational effectiveness. Matching funds in the amount of $18,546 will be available in the City Manager's Office from the general fund. ' The operations of the labor-management grant will commence in October, 1991.
