HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-91-07130-91-783 U9/24/91 RESOLUTION NO. 91 _ 713 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO THE USE OF CERTAIN STREETS AND THOROUGHFARES IN THE COCONUT GROVE AREA DURING THE "BABY BOOMER" 10K AND 5K ROAD RACE, TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI RUNNERS CLUB, INC. ON DECEMBER 1, 1991, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00 A.M. AND 11:00 A.M.. SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE RACE COURSE; CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS HEREIN UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Miami Runners Club, Inc. is requesting the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race to be held December 1, 1991 from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.; and WHEREAS, the restriction imposed by Ordinance No. 10764 as to the limitation of the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District does not apply to the "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road Race, since this event has been held previously in the Coconut Grove area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer" 10K and 5K Road - Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club, Inc. on December 1, 1991, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. is hereby authorized. Section 2. The herein approval is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. CITY COSSION MEETING OF OCT S 1991 91- 713 " 4 Section 3. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the race course. Said Road Race will begin at Pan American Drive and proceed through Bayshore Drive, McFarlane Road, Grand Avenue, McDonald Street, Oak Avenue, Tigertail Avenue, Aviation Avenue, Swanson Avenue, Kirk Street, Shore Drive and back to Bayshore Drive, concluding at Peacock Park. Section 4. The herein approvals and authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for all necessary costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. These authorizations are conditioned upon the organizers paying for the cost of City services and obtaining insurance to protect the City. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer." 10K and 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on Sunday, December 1, 1991. The organizers have met with the Special Events Committee and have designed a race course with the Police Department in order to minimize traffic disruption during the race.
