Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: Members DATEV 991 F!l- SUBJEC, Proposed Resolution For An Anti -Drug and Crime Prevention Parade Float REFERENCES ENCLOSURES It is respectfully requested that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the funding of the Miami Police Department Anti -Drug and Crime Prevention Parade Float, in an amount not to exceed $33,000, from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund. BACKGROUND: The Miami Police Department, in an effort to enhance the Department's image, while providing a highly visible anti -drug and crime prevention message, has sponsored a float in the last two King Orange parades. These floats have been highly successful in presenting the Department's message as well as improving community perception. This year's float design will feature the "Do The Right Thing" Program and will spotlight the student recipients as well as the officers involved in the program. By prominently displaying those individuals who have been rewarded for appropriate social behavior the Department hopes to encourage youth to aspire to achieve this type of recognition. It is therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the funding of an Anti -Drug and Crime Prevention Parade Float, in an amount not to exceed $33,000, be adopted. The funding source is the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Code No. 690001, Index Code 290904-996. CO 11 AFFIDAVIT I, Calvin Ross, Chief of Police, City of Miami, do hereby certify that this request for expenditure from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, for the purchase of an i-Drug and Crime Prevention Parade Float, at an es mated—p-Qst of S33.000, complies with the provisions of Section 932.704, Florida Statutes.
