WAY"; FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION 1*0 THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES DEPARTMENT, DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION/SOLID WASTE, DADE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE. WHEREAS, it is only fitting to demonstrate our appreciation in behalf of all citizens or the City of Miami for Humberto Quinones, Jr.'s inspiration to the Cuban people; and WHEREAS, Mr. Quinones served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Garces Commercial College, where under his leadership the school has trained and graduated numerous economically disadvantaged and language handicapped individuals who have now been introduced into our City's work force; and WHEREAS, Humberto Quinones, Jr. not only took part during the Bay of Pigs invasion, but also helped thousands of accountants, attorneys, veterinarians and doctors in our community who are indebted to him for his lobbying efforts in the enactment of State Law No. 3742 which granted them the opportunity to work in their professional fields without having to begin their careers anew; and WHEREAS, the Codesignation Committee of the City of Miami recommends that the hiatus of at least five (5) blocks in length between consecutive codesignations in numbered streets be waived as set forth in Section 5�►-91 of the City Code and the City ' Commission finds merit in such recommendation; CITY COI•�'4IS'SION MEETI 'NO OF MAY 9 1991 91- 343 NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT NES0LVE.1) BY THE. COMMISSION OF THE r.ITY OF MIAMI, I`LO[iIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are hcre1)y adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby codesignates Southwest 1 Street between Southwest 8 Avenue and Southwest 12 Avenue, Miami, Florida, as "Humberto Quiflones, Jr. Way ll. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Police Department, Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services Department, Department of General Services Administration/Solid Waste, Dade County Public Works Department and United States Postal Service. Od i o ENCLOSURES City Manager Resolution RECOMMENDATION: The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the codesignation of S.W. 1st Street between S.W. 12 Avenue and S.W. 8 Avenue as "Humberto Quinones, Jr. Way". BACKGROUND: Mr. Quinones served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Graces Commercial College where under his leadership the school trained and graduated many economically disadvantaged individuals who have now been introduced into our work force.
