A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $30t000 IN THE CONTRACT
PRICE FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE SWIMMING
POOL, AT GIBSON PARK, PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT
NO. B-2924-B, WITH FUNDS THEREFOR BEING
ALLOCATED FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT N0. 3310999 ENTITLED "SWIMMING POOL
RENOVATIONS"; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROCEED IMMEDIATELY WITH THIS
PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami entered into a contract with
Minority Systems, Inc. and Sealand Contractors, Inc., a joint
venture, on March 29, 1990, for swimming pool renovations at both
Curtis Park and Gibson Park, Project No. B-2934-B, for a total
contract price of $320,000, with funds allocated from Capital
Improvements Project No. 331099; and
WHEREAS, said contract was approved by the City Commission, i

pursuant to Resolution No. 90-182, adopted March 8, 1990; and

WHEREAS, the renovation work for the Gibson Park swimming
pool was put on hold in March of 1990 pending possible private
i
funding for the complete renovation of Gibson Park, including a
new pool complex; and !'
WHEREAS, said private funding failed to materialize and the
Gibson Park swimming pool is still in need of renovation; and
WHEREAS, the bid and contract for this project was based on
renovating the two pools simultaneously, allowing the contractor
to share the administrative and overhead costs across both sites;
and

WHEREAS,
the Administration has
requested the contractor to

reinstate this
project and begin the
work at Gibson Park Pool;
and
WHEREAS,
the contractor has
agreed to complete the
renovation work for the Gibson Park
Pool for the originalt
contract +cost,
but has requested that it be compensated for its
out -cif -pocket
expense for duplicated
administrative and overhead
costs; and

WHEREAS, the contractor initially requested $46,895 for this
expense but has agreed to accept compensation in the amount of
$20,000; and
WHEREAS, an increase in the total amount of $30000, which
includes an amount of $10,000 as a contingency for unforeseen
work, is required to ensure full completion of the swimming pool
renovation at Gibson Park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. An amount not to exceed $30,000 is hereby
authorized as an increase in the contract amount for the
renovation of the Gibson Park Swimming Pool, Public Works Project.
No. B-2934-B, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the
Capital Improvement Project No. 331099, entitled "Swimming Pool
Renovations".
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
immediately proceed with this project.
Section 3. This Resolution shall
immediately upon its adoption.
