HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-91-0267J-91-316 4/5/91 RESOLUTION NO. 91 "' 267 A RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING SOUTHWEST 1ST AVENUE FROM SOUTHWEST STH STREET TO SOUTHWEST 13TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "KAGOSHIMA WAY"; FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE, RESCUE AND ' INSPECTION SERVICES DEPARTMENT, DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION/SOLID WASTE, DADE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE. WHEREAS, the Commission of the City of Miami, by Resolution No. 90-360, adopted May 24, 1990, formally designated the City of Kagoshima, Japan as "Sister City" of the City of Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, it is only fitting to demonstrate our appreciation on behalf of all citizens of the City of Miami for our Sister City of Kagoshima, Japan;,and WHEREAS, as part of the City of Miami's Sister Cities cultural, educational,. and professional exchange program initiated November_ 1, 1990, between Miami and Kagoshima, each ci- has; agreed to name a ; street in honor of the other city to promote international,relations and friendship; and _ WHEREAS.. the Commission of the City of Miami, by Ordinance No .10761, adopted July 12, 1990, created the Miami Street Codesgnation,Review Committee and entrusted said Committee with the responsibility of reviewing street codesignation requests and making recommendations to the City Commission in ­`its determination as to whether a street should be codesgnated;'and WHEREAS, the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee, at i, itsting of March 19, 1991, reviewed a request for cQd'e# `' ation of Southwest 1st Avenue between Southwest 8th ' hoot and Sout west'A3th Street, Miami, Florida, as KAGOSHIMA WAX'; and Cob # r WMETING AV I MUM N_} y,t . i WHEREASs, the street requested to be codesignated is located °. in immediate proximity to the World Trade Center, which center Baas developed by a Japanese firm, and in which Center the Japan Air Lines maintains an office and is also the proposed site for the Japanese Consulate; and WHEREAS, the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee has recommended to the City Commission that this request for codeeignation be granted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this section. City Commissioner (/ City of Miami, City Sall l/ 35W Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 Dear Commissioner Plummer, At the meeting of the -City Commissioners on April 26, 1990, the Commissioners passed unanimously the following motion: . Motion 90-322: A motion instructing the City Manager to work with Episcopal Community Development Loan Fund, Inc. to try to include its program amongst those presently contained in the mini U.D.A.G. funding program, subject to the following provisions being met: (1) that they comply with all federal requirements; (2) that the Episcopal Diocese give a letter of guarantee as collateral for the loan; and (3) that the City will not issue any dollars until the agency's dollars are in the bank. The Episcopal Community Development Loan Fund, Inc. has complied - eatisfactorily with all the conditions set out in the motion. The:final contract was scheduled to come before the Commissioners'at its April llth 1991 meeting. Now, we are told there is no money. It is well known that several projects were approved for funding from the have all received the same mini U.D.A.G. account after April 26, 1990 and hard to why at this late stage, the Episcopal funding. ;It is understand Community Development Loan Fund, Inc. is now told there is no money.
