HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-91-0258J'-91-285 3/28/51 RESOLUTION NO. 91- 2 5 8 A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE "YOUTH FOR LIFE" BICYCLE RACE TO BE CONDUCTED BY CURE AIDS NOW ON APRIL 28, 1991, AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; FURTHER CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS HEREIN UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, Cure.AIDS Now will conduct the "Youth for Life" Bicycle Race, a fund raising event, on April 28, 1991; and WHEREAS, Certain streets must be closed to through vehicular traffic during the race to insure the safety of the participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the "Youth for Life" Bicycle Race at Bicentennial Park and vicinity, the following 'streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic:from.7:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 28, 1991, as specified below: Northbound Easternmost lane of Biscayne .Boulevard, from Northeast Eighth Street to N 'theast Eleventh Street - or Included -in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. Such closing of streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to am 1 the Chief of Police after institutions in the area for t--116ciy++y g arteriais and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's judgment predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 3. The herein approvals and authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for the necessary costs of City services associated with said event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. Odi City Manager DATE MAR Z U 1991 FILE suaiEct Resolution -Street Closures for "Youth for Life" in Bicentennial park REFERENCES :Agenda Item April 11, 1991 ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: it is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing street closures in connection with the "Youth for Life" Bicycle Race at Bicentennial Park and vicinity to be conducted by Cure AIDS Now on Sunday, April 28, 1991. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation which authorizes the closure of certain streets for the "Youth for Life" Bicycle Race in Bicentennial Park and vicinity, to be conducted by Cure AIDS Now on Sunday, April 28, 1991. The organizers have met with the Special Events Committee and the Police Department has approved a course that will minimize traffic disruption. The herein authorization is subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City and paying for any costs above and beyond those waived by the City.
