AND THE MIAMI COMMUNITY POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION FOR A WAIVER OF THE REQUIREMENT OF ORDINANCE NO. 10764 THAT ONLY ONE STREET CLOSURE TAKE PLACE PER MONTH IN THE COCONUT GROVE SPECIAL EVENTS DISTRICT; WAIVING THE REQUIREMENT OF ORDINANCE NO. 10764 THAT THE ORGANIZERS OF SAID EVENT SUBMIT THE SPECIAL EVENTS APPLICATION TO CITY AT LEAST ONE- HUNDRED AND TWENTY (120) DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE EVENT; AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; ALLOWING A TWO-DAY PERIOD TO THE ORGANIZERS FOR THE SALE OF BEER AND WINE IN CONNECTION WITH SAID EVENT, SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF ALL PERMITS REQUIRED BY LAW; SAID ACTIONS BEING CONDITIONED UPON EXCLUSIVE SPORTS MARKETING, INC. PAYING THE MIAMI COMMUNITY POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION THE AMOUNT OF $8,000 OR 33 1/3 PERCENT OF GROSS PROCEEDS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER; FURTHER CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS UPON THE HEREIN ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. r t n' BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, ; 7r FLORIDA: Section 1, The request of Exclusive Sports Marketing, Inc. and the Miami Community Police Benevolent Association related to the 1991 Bud Dry Rocking the Rim Outdoor Basketball Tour on F May 4-5, 1991, for a waiver of the requirement of Ordinance No. 10764 that only one street closure take place per month in the�Coconut Grove Special Events District is hereby granted. ' -F Section 2. The requirement of Ordinance No. 10764 that the organizers of said event submit the Special Events Application to the City at least one -hundred and twenty (120) days prior to the date of the event is hereby waived, x- _f Section 3. 1n order to effectuate safe passage during the i t 1991 Bud Dry Rocking the Rim outdoor Basketball Tour, the a following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic from 730tl A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 4, 19911 and Sundayt may 5, 1991, as specified belows Grand Avenue from Commodore Plaza to Mary Street. Mary Street from Grand Avenue to Oak Avenue. K Virginia Street from Grand Avenue to oak Avenue. F - t Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. �r- 'Section 4. Such closing of streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police may only be issued upon full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses, and religious ;. institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said lri arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's `= judgment predicated upon all factors set forth herein. r Section S.. Upon, the issuance of a temporary permit by the ' Florida Department of Business Regulations, Division of Alcoholic qe Beverages and Tobacco, to distribute beer and wine pursuant to , City Code Section 54-12.11 the request of the organizers to sell' beer and wine for a two-day period in connection with the 1991 Bud Dry Rocking the Rim Outdoor Basketball Tour is hereby granted subject to the issuance of all permits required by law. Section 6. Exclusive Sports Marketing, Inc. is hereby 71,, instructed to pay the Miami Community Police Benevolent_ Association the amount of $8,000 or 33 1/3 percent of gross proceeds, whichever is greater. Section 7. This event is a five city tour for recreational basketball players of all ages. In addition to providing quality recreation, the major objective of this event is to benefit local charities of the; chosen cities.: The Miami Community Police Benevolent Association is asking that the City of Miami join us for support of this worthwhile project. ` A recreational event such as the Rocking the Rim Outdoor Basketball Tour will give all segments of our community the opportunity to interact and participate in a united effort to help people who are less fortunate. We are requesting that this years event be held in the Coconut 0� ` Grove Business Area. We are also aware that an event in this area would require adjustments in the traffic for that area, and some t street closures.' Mr Bill Perry III of the City of Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority is aware of our efforts to bring this event to the City of Miami, and has agreed to assist us as needed to make this event a success. Our five city swing in 91' is the recreational ball player's dream come true and is an opportunity for all ages to participate in a healthy and worthwhile outdoor recreational activity. In addition to providing five-star recreation the major objective of this series is to benefit the local charities of our chosen cities. By committing to an extremely professional and aggressive marketing campaign our charitable contributions.will naturally be over and above our 91' goals. The only way to build this charitable fund will be to capture the attention of the recreational marketplace in each city. By placing your name with this concept you will be a major cog in the perpetuation of the tournament and it's charitable objectives. Along with Exclusive Sports Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, and Sunshine Network are the main Catalysts in the marketing and implementation of this tour. Each have contributed financially to expand this concept to a statewide tour. In addition, each have developed prolific advertising campaigns to help bring about strong statewide awareness. Each individual tournament has been strategically positioned i downtown to capitalize on our concept of "Taking it Downtown" !!
