A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE MARCH OF DIMES WALK AMERICA TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MARCH OF DIMES BIRTH DEFECTS FOUNDATION ON APRIL 6, 1991, APPROVING THE USE OF CERTAIN STREETS AND i THOROUGHFARES IN COCONUT GROVE DURING THE ,r WALK-A-THON SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS i. BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE WALK-A-THON COURSE; FURTHER CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS GRANTED HEREIN UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY' THE CITY I' MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. 0 WHEREAS, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation will conduct the March of Dimes Walk America on Saturday, April 6, 1991; and WHEREAS, the organizers have requested the use of certain streets in Coconut Grove to conduct the aforementioned event between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.; and WHEREAS, the restrictions imposed by Ordinance No. 10764 as to the limitation of the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply to the March of Dimes Walk America, since this event has been held in the past in the Coconut Grove area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the walk-a-thon course, as follows: McFarlane Road, Main Highway, Douglas Road, Edgewater Drive and Ingraham Highway. Section 2. The partial use of streets in Coconut Grove during said event is hereby approved, subject to the exercise of complete control over such use by the Department of police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses, and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials. Section 3. The herein approvals and authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee and paying for all costs of City services associated with said event. The herein authorization is subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. This authorization is i further conditioned upon the organizers paying for the cost of City services and subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to If protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manageror j, his designee. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing street use in connection with the March of Dimes Walk America to be conducted by the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation on Saturday, April 6, 1991. This is a 20K Walk -A -Thou to raise funds to aid research in the prevention of birth defects. Although part of the course is located within the Coconut Grove Special Events District, the limitations on the number of events do not apply in this case, since the aforementioned event has been held in the Grove in the past.
