HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-91-0114Ibi J-91.89 2/11/91 RESOLUTION NO. 91 "' 1.14 A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 1 OF RESOLUTION NO. 87y-552, ADOPTED JUNE 11, 1987, WHICH HAD CODESIGNATED CERTAIN STREETS OF THE CITY IN THE LATIN QUARTER DISTRICT AREA BOUNDED BY NORTHWEST 1ST STREET ON THE NORTH, SOUTHWEST 9TH STREET ON THE SOUTH, 12TH AVENUE ON THE EAST, AND 17TH AVENUE ON THE WEST, TO DELETE THEREFROM 13TH AVENUE BETWEEN NORTHWEST 1ST STREET AND SOUTHWEST 9TH STREET, SAID AVENUE HAVING BEEN CO -DESIGNATED JUAN PABLO DUARTE AVENUE; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO CERTAIN NAMED GOVERNMENT OFFICES. WHEREAS, the Latin Quarter Review Board, at its meeting of January 14, 1987, indicated its support of a codesignation program for streets in the Latin Quarter District; and WHEREAS, the City Commission at its June 11, 1987 meeting adopted Resolution No. 87-552 codesignating certain streets of the City in the Latin Quarter District area bounded by Northwest 1st Street, Southwest 9th Street, 12th Avenue and 17th Avenue; and WHEREAS, the sponsors of the street codesignation for Juan Pablo Duarte desired to have a street codesignated in his honor at location other than that contained in Resolution No. 87-552; and WHEREAS, on December 6, 1990, the City Commission approved Resolution No. 90-936 codesignating Northwest 17th Street and Northwest 34th Street as "Juan Pablo Duarte Avenue"; and WHEREAS, having two different streets codesignated for Juan Pablo Duarte will cause confusion and delays in public agency response to emergencies, to the general public and to commercial delivery people; and WHEREAS, the City Commission, after consideration of this matter, deems it advisable and in the best interest of the NOW? THEREFt REt $9 IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OP MIAMI , FLORI DA t Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 1 of Resolution No. 87-552, adopted June 11, 1987, is hereby amended in the following particulars/2 "Section 1. The following City streets in the Latin Quarter District, in an area bounded by Northwest 1st Street on the North, Southwest 9th Street on the South, 12th Avenue on the East, and 17th Avenue on the West, are hereby codesignated as indicated: Southwest 9th Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Hernando de Soto; Southwest 7th Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Simon Bolivar; Southwest 6th Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Antonio Maceo; Southwest 5th Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Alfonsina Storni; Southwest 4th Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Carlos Manuel de Cespedes; Southwest 3rd Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Benito Juarez; Southwest 2nd Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Juana de Ibarbourou; Southwest 1st Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Jose Marti; Southwest Flagler Terrace between 12th and 17th Avenues as Capitana Adela Azcuy; Northwest 1st Street between 12th and 17th Avenues as Calle Mariana Grajales; 4 lip 14th Avenue between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as Avenida Gabriela Mistral; 15th Avenue between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as Avenida Luis Munoz Marin; 16th Avenue between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as Avenida Ruben Dario; 12th Court between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as Avenida Francisco Morazan; and 13th Court between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as Avenida Marta Abreu." Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the United States Postal Authority, the Traffic and Transportation Section of the Metropolitan Dade County Public Works Department, the City of Miami Police Department, the City of Miami Public Works Department, and the City of Miami Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services Department. Words and/or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words and/or figures shall be added. BACKGROUND: On June 11, 1987 the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 87-.552, codesignating certain streets of the City in the Latin Quarter District Area including the codesignation of 13th Avenue between Northwest 1st Street and Southwest 9th Street as "Avenida Juan Pablo Duarte".
