Rainbow Buick property
On April 24th, Representatives of the Rainbow Buick property at
SW 23rd Avenue and 8th Street met with the Department of
Development to discuss potential City purchase of the site for a
Little Havana Specialty Center. This meeting was arranged in
compliance with the Commission motion passed April 11th, 1991
directing the City Manager to explore such a purchase and report
back at the earliest possible time.
The property owners agreed to sell and we agreed to recommend to
the Commission the purchase of 3.15 acres of land (137,000 s.f.)
for $1.7 million dollars ($12.31 per square foot of land). The
attached map illustrates the property boundaries.
The subject property presently includes three long term (66 years
remaining) leaseholds which we would require be bought out by the
present Buick property owners to provide the City with a clear
fee simple purchase for the entire 3.15 acre site.
