ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution approving the
sponsorship of an Endowed Teaching Chair for the Miami -Dade
Community College Criminal Justice Program, at a cost not to
exceed $45,000, from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, be approved.
The Miami Police Department utilizes the Miami -Dade Community
College Criminal Justice Department to furnish Basic Law
Enforcement training for all Miami recruits. The Department has,
utilized these services for approximately 20 years and.
anticipates continuing to utilize them in the future. The is
Southeast Florida Institute of Criminal Justice, as it was
commonly known, has earned the respect and admiration of the
entire nation as one of the top police academies. In an effort
to insure that the program is able to attract quality
instructors, the Police Department is prepared to sponsor an
Endowed Teaching Chair. The Department's $45,000 sponsorship
would be matched by a $30, 000 state grant and the entire amount
would be placed in a perpetual trust, used to provide bonuses and
equipment to outstanding instructors in the Criminal Justice
Program.
