Trias. Sensei Trias had been a dedicated student of Karate for 49 years. Sensei Trias began his studies Shuri-de, and Hsing Yi Master Tung Gee Hsing, a Chinese Missionary seeking conversion of the Solomon Island natives during the time of World War II, from which he received his first instructor degree. Master Hsing received his recognition in Karate-Kempo from Choki Motobu Master of Shuri-de and father of present day karate, who in turn received his karate recognition from Master Anok Itus (in 1860). Later in the war, Master Trias met Hoy Young Ping, Master of Kemp Sinjo school in Japan. Mr. Trias' accomplishments must be considered as phenomenal in view of the difficulties imposed by the language barrier and the beliefs that Caucasians were not suited to endure the rigors of the long, arduous methods of training used by the Oriental masters. Shortly after the war, Master Trias returned to the United States to begin teaching and spreading the science of Karate. Two years later, Master Trias formed the United States Karate Association, the largest Karate organization today in the world. At this time, Mr. Trias was in search of individuals who were currently active in Martial Arts skills similar to his own history. In his.search, he located Mr. John A. Pachivas in Miami, Florida. Sensei John Pachivas founded the first Karate school in the State of Florida in 1940. Sensei Pachivas and his 850 students jointed Master Trias' new organization, since then Sensei Pachivas has been Mr. Trias regional director of the southeastern United States. Soon membership to this new organization escalated to nearly 12,000. u tet) taies Kanate AsAct-atION .1NtC1xNat1"0,N 1, INC. 01101tc1 p 153" N.E. 21M AVENUE JOHN A. PACHIVAS NORTH MIAMI BEACH. Sensei Pachivas has organized seminars for handicapped children and the North Miami, North Miami Beach and Miami police departments, as well as the Drug Enforcement Task Force. He has privately taught several FBI agents the art of Karate and self defense. By 1968, the once small Karate organization had now escalated to 35,000 memberships. In 1972, Mr. Pachivas presented his first International Karate Championships in North Miami Beach, from then on Mr. Pachivas has been recognized as the leader in the field of competitive match promotion in the United States Karate Association and the eyes of the public. On an annual schedule, the International Championships has been strategically located throughout the United States. Mr. Pachivas has been elected, since then, to promote more of these International Championships. By 1981, the organization had increased to 78,000 active members. Three years later, Mr. Pachivas achieved the enroll- ment of 36 various countries for the United States Karate Association. By 1984, Mr. Pachivas had gained the utmost respect from Sensei Trias and many other Senseis of large organizations throughout the world. His dedication and persistence has allowed him to increase the memberships up to 200,000. In 1989, Sensei Robert A. Trias, founder of the organization, died. At his bedside, he and six regional directors designated Sensei Pachivas to be the new President of the United States Karate Association. This upcoming event will not only be successful but a memorable tribute to Robert A. Trias. 1Ci 'l Y 1^ i 91 .R.R -.
