HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0779El J-92-850 11/23/92 RESOLUTION NO. 9'�- 778 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $8,122 FROM THE U.S. AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANT PROGRAM THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES FOR THE PLANTING OF COCONUT PALMS IN PEACOCK PARK, LOCATED AT 2820 MCFARLANE ROAD, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENT(S), IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, in July 1992, the Department of Parks and Recreation submitted an application to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Forestry, seeking grant funds under the federal America the Beautiful Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program for the planting of Coconut Palms in Peacock Park; and WHEREAS, said program, administered by the Divisions of Forestry, provides U.S. America the Beautiful Urban and Community Forestry grant monies to local governments and municipalities for tree planting projects which improve certain areas within the City and promote proper urban and community forestry practices; and WHEREAS, the palm planting project in Peacock Park, as proposed in the grant application, will be a part of overall improvements to the park as a component of the Redevelopment Plan; and CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF DEC 1 0 1992 Resolution No. 92-- 779 i y f WHEREAS, the Administration was notified by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on October 28, 1992 that the City was approved for a grant award; and WHEREAS, the total grant project will amount to $16,244.00 consisting of $8,122.00 in federal/state grant monies, and an equal amount as the required local match, which will consist of volunteer labor and in -kind personnel and material expenses currently available within the FY '93 Operating Budget of the Parks and Recreation Department; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in thb Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A grant in the amount of $8,122.00 is hereby accepted from the U.S. American the Beautiful Urband and Community Forestry Grant Program through the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services under the America the Beautiful Urban and Community Forestry Program, for the planting of Coconut Palms in Peacock Park, located at 2820 McFarlane Road, Miami, Florida. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized!/ to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. !/ The herein authorization' is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. -2- ,92- .779 Section 4. Odio City Manager CA=17 DATE : I' F%.j32 FILE Resolution to Accept Grant for SUBJECT : Peacock Park Palm Planting America the Beautiful Urban and Community Forestry Program REFERENCES : ENCLOSURES: gecommendation It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution accepting a grant in the amount of $8,122.00 from the U.S. America the Beautiful Urban and Community Forestry Program through the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services for the planting of palms in Peacock Park. The legislation would also authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents for this purpose. Background The Department of Parks and Recreation submitted a grant application to the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services in July of 1992 seeking federal America the Beautiful monies for the planting of palms in Peacock Park. This program provides federal America the Beautiful funds to local governments 'or the planting of trees. The City received notice on October 28, 1992 that the City was eligible for a grant of $8,122.00. The required local match, in an amount equal to the federal/state monies, will consist of volunteer,labor and in -kind personnel and material expenses currently available within the FY 193 Operating Budget of the Parks and Recreation Department. Appropriation of the new grant funds will be included in the master appropriations ordinance for the City's Capital Improvement Program for the upcoming fiscal year. 92- 779
