Od.io Affirmative Action Advisory FROM: City Manager REFERENCES$oard ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the appointment and confirmation of individuals to serve on the Affirmative Action Advisory Board. BACKGROUND The Department of Internal Audits and Reviews respectfully requests the confirmation and appointment of individuals to the Affirmative Action Advisory Board. At the present time, Females and Hispanics are underrepresented on the Board, comprising 33% Females and 33% Hispanics, compared to 46% and 59%, respectively. of the City of Miami general population. At the present time, two (2) vacancies exist on the Board. Ms. Alicia Baro, appointed by Mayor Suarez, and Ms. Lori Weldon, appointed by Commissioner DeYurre, resigned their positions on the Board. Although Mayor Suarez appointed Ramiro Chong at the May 14, 1992 commission meeting, this appointment is not in compliance with the Affirmative Action Advisory Boards By-laws, Article 3, which states. "Persons nominated for membership must reside or work within the boundaries of the City of Miami municipalitv." Mr. Chonq does not meet this criteria. In addition, the term of Serqeant Kevin McKinnon, who was appointed to the Board by the Fraternal Order of Police Union (FOP), expires July 11, 1992; it is the desire of the -Board Members that the commission confirm his reappointment by the FOP. In accordance with administrative policy, I am notifying you of the above so that you may appoint and confirm these members to e Board as provided for in Section 1 of Ordinance No. 9139. j"' Attachments: Proposed Resolution Membership Breakdown 92- 642 AFFiRMATIVEACTION ADVISORY BOARD AS OF August, 1992 ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE DIRECTORY EXPIRATION NAME ADDRESS TELEPHONE OF TERM -- Omar Castro Environmental Services/ 575-5141 (0) Jan. 10, 1993 Operations Management 822-1625 (H) Property Maintenance 1975 N.W. 12 Ave. Miami, Fl 33136 Danny Couch 3180 Lamb Ct. 441-8873 (H) Jan. 10, 1993 Miami, Fl 33133 Robert Cummings 9010 N.W. 16 Ave. Feb. 14, 1993 Miami, F1 33147 353-1514 (B) Virgil Fernandez 210 S.W. 23 Rd. 592-7766 (0) Feb. 12, 1994 Miami, F1 33129 285-2073 (H) Janet J.
