RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
REQUESTING THE DIVISION OF FORESTRY, FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER
SERVICES (DEPARTMENT), TO CONDUCT A SURVEY TO
DETERMINE WHETHER THE DEPARTMENT SHOULD
PROVIDE THE CITY OF MIAMI WITH THE SERVICES
OF AN URBAN FORESTER; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROVIDE OFFICE SPACE AND
SECRETARIAL SERVICES FOR SAID FORESTER;
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO REQUEST
REIMBURSEMENT OF THE COST FOR SAID SERVICES,
IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,000.001 FROM THE FEDERAL
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA);
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY
NECESSARY AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO
THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE DEPARTMENT;
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TRANSMIT A
CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
DEPARTMENT AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES AS
DESIGNATED.
WHEREAS, the Commission of the City of Miami is cognizant of
the many benefits provided by trees and forests; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami currently enforces an
Environmental Preservation Ordinance which provides for the
protection and preservation of trees and other significant
environmental features; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has suffered extensive damage to
its trees as a result of Hurricane Andrew and expects to be
reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for
the cost of replacing lost tree canopy within public rights -of -
way, parks, and public property; and

WHEREAS, tree management, maintenance, and planting plans
must be developed to preserve existing trees and replace lost
trees; and
WHEREAS, the Commission of the City of Miami desires to
enter into a cooperative arrangement with the Division of
Forestry, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
(Department), for the provision of services of an urban forester;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the

Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby requests the
Division of Forestry, Florida Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Services (Department), to conduct a survey to determine
whether the Department should provide the City of Miami with the
services of an urban forester.
74 Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to provide
office space and secretarial services to assist said forester.
Section 4. The City Manager is hereby instructed to submit
the cost for said services, in the amount of $3,000.00, to the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for reimbursement.

Section 5. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute

Attorney, with the Department to carry out the purposes and
intent of this Resolution.
Section 6. The City Manager is hereby directed to instruct
the Director of Planning, Building and Zoning Department to
transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of
the Department and to all other parties having an interest
herein.
Section 7. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
