HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0535J-92-626 9/8/92 RESOLUTION NO. 9 2 - 535 A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE USE OF CERTAIN STREETS AND THOROUGHFARES IN THE COCONUT GROVE AREA DURING THE "BABY BOOMER" 5K ROAD RACE, TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI RUNNERS CLUB ON DECEMBER 61 1992, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 5:00 P.M. AND 8:30 P.M., SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE RACE COURSE; CONDITIONED UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT, AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Miami Runners Club is requesting the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race to be held December 6, 1992 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.; and WHEREAS, the restrictions imposed by Ordinance No. 10764 as to the limitation of the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply to the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race, since this event has been held in the past in the Coconut Grove area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF S E P 1 0 1992 Resolution No. 92- 535 Section 1. The use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on December 5, 1992, between the hours of 500 P.M. and 8:30 'P.M. is hereby authorized. Section 2. The herein authorization is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. T. Section 3 The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the following streets to be utilized as part of the race course: Beginning at Pan American Drive and t proceeding through Bayshore Drive, McFarlane Road, Main Highway, Devon Road, Avocado Avenue, Plaza Street, and back to Bayshore Drive, concluding at Peacock Park. Section 4. Such authorization is hereby subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee and paying for all necessary costs of City services and fees associated with said event. Od City Manager RECOMMENDATIONt DATE : SEP - 21992 FILE : SUBJECT: Resolution Concerning the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race REFERENCES: Commission Agenda Item ENCLOSURES: September 10, 1992 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the use of certain streets for the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on Sunday, December 6, 1992 from 5:00 P.M. to 800 P.M. These authorizations are conditioned upon the organizers paying for the cost of City services and obtaining insurance to protect the City. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing the use of certain streets and thoroughfares in the Coconut Grove area during the "Baby Boomer" 5K Road Race to be conducted by the Miami Runners Club on Sunday, December 6, 1992. The organizers have met with the Special Events Committee and have designed a race course with the Police Department in order to minimize traffic disruption during the race. The limitations on the number of events in the Coconut Grove Special Events District do not apply in this case, since the aforementioned event has been held in the Grove in the past.
