BACKGROUND: The SWAP Program will provide a multidimensional opportunity for the City of Miami Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services to compare and evaluate other systems and operations, and provide a mechanism to critique our own system and operation. Most directly, the program will enable participating Miami Fire Rescue paramedics the opportunity to examine the operation of other EMS systems - their equipment, apparatus, procedures, protocols, policies, programs, patient populations and approaches to common problems. Upon returning to the Miami Fire Department, participating paramedics will be able to compare our own system with that of the exchange Department. Likewise while riding with Miami Fire Department, exchange paramedics will be able to offer insights into our system as seen from their perspective.
