HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0436J-92-472 06/24/92 L-1 11 RESOLUTION NO. 9 2- 436 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN THE FUNDING OF THE OFFICER FRIENDLY PROGRAM, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $461700, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department strives to present a positive image to the citizens of Miami; and WHEREAS, the Officer Friendly Program promotes Police Officers as role models and creates an awareness of the different duties and services performed by Police Officers; and WHEREAS, this year's program will allow 100 youngsters to attend Summer Camp Getaways and 500 additional youngsters to participate in scheduled activities in, and around, Dade County; and WHEREAS, all purchases exceeding $4,500 will be brought before the City Commission, pursuant to the Code of the City of Miami; and CITY CONMSSIOX MEETING OF n©solution No. 92- 436 WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statute 932.704, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. An increase in the funding of the Officer Friendly Program is hereby authorized with funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $46,700, hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police. Odio City Manager DATE I -,LE IQ02 suB-1ECT Resolution Increasing Allocations for the Officer Friendly Program REEEREUCES ENCLOSURES It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution increasing allocations for the Officer Friendly Program, in an amount not to exceed $46,700, be approved. The Police Department's Officer Friendly Program promotes the Police Officer as a positive role model for members of the community. This program is designed to create an awareness of the different duties and services provided by Police Officers. This is accomplished through presentations throughout the City, including the distribution of anti -crime and anti -drug materials. This year over 100 students will be provided an opportunity to attend Summer Camp Getaways. Additionally, 500 other students will participate in regularly scheduled activities throughout the year.
