HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0434_1y J-92-684 7/9/92 11 92-- 434 RESOLUTION NO. 11 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE METRO-MIAMI ACTION PLAN KINGIAN NON -VIOLENCE WORKSHOP, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $19,831, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.704(3)(a), as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has experienced social unrest and racial tension resulting in civil disturbances; and WHEREAS, there is a recognized need for peace education in an effort to avoid any future distrrbances; and WHEREAS, the Metro -Miami Action Plan is participating in a workshop aimed at teaohing the theory of Kingian Non -Violence, the application of which has proved to be effective in resolving potentially violent situations; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department supports these efforts and has taken an active role in the sponsorship of such programs and this funding will be utilized to sponsor 8 Neighborhood Resource Officers, & Field Training Officers, 5 CITY Cobsus.%=* BIE-ETING O$ r' i �1111, 0 9 1992 —ii : Aeee9ut►an Na =, 92- 434 C Crime Prevention Council Presidents, 10 Students, and 2 Certified Trainers; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the proposed expenditure complies with Florida State Statute 932.704, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, HE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted be reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding of the Metro -Miami Action Plan Kingian Non -Violence Workshop is hereby authorized with funds therefor hereby allocated, in an amount not to exceed $19,831, from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 890001, Index Code 029002-247, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police.
