HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0344•J-92-422 =- 5/27/92 RESOLUTION NO. _ A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S OFFER OF A CITY OWNED PARCEL OF LAND LOCATED IN VIRGINIA KEY FOR USE BY THE PROMOTERS OF THE LIPTON INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP (THE "TENNIS TOURNAMENT") FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL TENNIS CENTER (THE "TENNIS CENTER") AND THE STAGING OF THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT IN THE EVENT THAT DADE COUNTY IS UNSUCCESSFUL IN ITS ATTEMPT TO - _ CONTINUE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TENNIS CENTER AT -_ ITS PRESENT LOCATION IN KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the Tennis Tournament has been successfully held in Key Biscayne, in Dade County, Florida, for the past several years; and WHEREAS, pursuant to an agreement between Dade County and the promoters of the Tennis Tournament, and with funds derived from the proceeds from the Professional Sports Franchise Facility Tax, the construction of a permanent facility for the Tennis Center was started in Key Biscayne, Florida; and WHEREAS, the construction of the Tennis Center has been halted due to litigation being instituted against Dade County regarding the use of the Key Biscayne parcel of land for the establishment of the Tennis Center; and - ti a WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission at its meeting of May 14, 1992 made an offer to the Dade County Commission and the promoters of the Tennis Tournament of a city owned parcel of land in Virginia Key for the establishment of the Tennis Center and the staging of the Tennis Tournament in the event that Dade County is unsuccessful in its litigation to keep the Tennis Center at its present location; and WHEREAS, the City Commission now wishes to reaffirm its offer to the Dade County Commission and the promoters of the Tennis Tournament; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City of Miami hereby reaffirms its offer of a City owned parcel of land in Virginia Key for use by the promoters of the Tennis Tournament for the establishment of the Tennis Center and the staging of the Tennis Tournament in the event that Dade County is unsuccessful in its attempt to continue construction of the Tennis Center at its present location in Key Biscayne, Florida.
