AND 8:00 P.M., SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE COURSE; CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS HEREIN UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, Operation Save Eyes will conduct the Operation Save Eyes Health Walk on July 25, 1992; and WHEREAS, Operation Save Eyes has requested the partial use of certain streets and thoroughfares in Little Haiti to conduct the aforementioned event between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The use of certain streets and thoroughfares in Little Haiti on July 25, 1992 between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and RECONSIDE RESCI 9 2 - 726 C= cobZUS SION MEETING OF i MAY 1 4 1992 Revolution Na, 92-- 296 1 8:00 P.M. during the Operation Save Eyes Health Walk to be ' conducted by Operation Save Eyes is hereby approved. Section 2. The herein approval is hereby conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Ir Section 3. The Police Department is hereby authorized to control traffic flow on the streets to be utilized as part of the Health Walk, as follows: Northeast Sixty-second Street from North Miami Avenue to Biscayne Boulevard. Biscayne Boulevard from Northeast Sixty-second Street to Northeast Fifty-fourth Street. Northeast Fifty-fourth Street from Biscayne Boulevard to North Miami Avenue. North Miami Avenue from Northeast Fifty-fourth Street to Northeast Sixty-second Street. Section 4. The herein authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for all necessary costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. Odio ENCLOSURES: Commission Agenda Item City Manager May 14, 1992 RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the partial use of certain streets in the Little Haiti area in connection with the Operation Save Eyes Health Walk to be conducted by the Operation Save Eyes, Saturday, July 25, 1992, between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. This authorization is further conditioned upon the organizers paying for the cost of City services and applicable fees and subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation authorizing the partial use of certain streets in the Little Haiti area in connection with the Operation Save Eyes Health Walk to be conducted by the Operation Save Eyes, Saturday, July 25, 1992. This organization wants to make Haitians and other members of the area aware of good healthy habits, specifically eye care. The organizers have met with the Police Department to design a course that minimizes the disruption of traffic in the area. Attachment: (1) Proposed Resolution 92- 296
