A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE HISTORIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION BOARD, RESOLUTION NO. 92--11, ADOPTED APRIL 21, 1992, FAVORING RESTORATION OF THE _ VENETIAN CAUSEWAY; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUPPORT THE CITY OF MIAMI'S HISTORIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION BOARD IN ITS EFFORTS RELATED TO ENSURING THE REHABILITATION AND RESTORATION OF THE - VENETIAN CAUSEWAY AND TO COORDINATE EFFORTS — WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW RESTORATION PLANS; AND FURTHER REQUESTING THE ASSISTANCE OF THE DADE COUNTY DELEGATION TO ENSURE THAT THE COMMITMENT OF BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDS FOR THE REHABILITATION AND RESTORATION OF SAID CAUSEWAY IS SECURED. — WHEREAS, the Venetian Causeway is an important and historic link between the City of Miami and the City of Miami Beach; and s WHEREAS, the historic and arohiteotural importance of this Causeway has been recognized by the inclusion of the Venetian Causeway in the National Register of Historia Landmarks; and = WHEREAS, the character of the venetian Islands with their narrow and low bridges are aesthetically charming and desirable and enhance the quality of residential life; and WHEREAS, the aesthetics and aquatic environment of the Venetian Islands are an asset to the City of Miami and all of Dade County; and CITY COMUSSTOR MEETING Oil r� MAY 1 4 1992 R6201ution No. 92 278 WHEREAS, the preservation of the Venetian Causeway as an historic site will be highly beneficial to the residents of the Venetian Islands, the citizens of the City of Miami, Dade County, and the United States of America; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands have obtained a commitment from the State Department of Transportation to fund a study of the possible rehabilitation of the Causeway; and WHEREAS, the age and deteriorating conditions of Venetian Causeway bridges necessitates repair and/or restoration work; and WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Authority and the State Department of Transportation have committed funding for the repair, restoration and/or replacement of the bridges and repaving of the roads of the Venetian Causeway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporation herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The recommendations of the Historic and Environmental Preservation Board, as set forth in Resolution No. 92-11 adopted April 21, 1992 are hereby adopted. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby directed to support the City of Miami's Historic and Environmental Preservation Board in its efforts relating to ensuring the rehabilitation and restoration of the Venetian Causeway and to coordinate efforts with the State Department of Transportation towards the development of new restoration plans. -2- 9-9- 278 Seotion 4. The City Manager is hereby directed to request the assistance of the Dade County Delegation to ensure that the commitment of both state and federal funds, for the rehabilitation and restoration of said causeway is seoured. Seotion 8. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
