Honorable Xavier Suarez Mayor of Miami 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 March 25, 1992 Re: Funding for Marjory Stoneman Douglas Art Exhibition and 102nd Birthday Celebration Dear Mayor Suarez: Planning for this year's Marjory Stoneman Douglas invitational Art Exhibition is well underway and we hope you can join us for the opening reception on April 3, 1992. We will also be celebrating Ms. Douglas' 102nd birthday. The exhibiton will be open free to the public from April 4 through May 22, 1992, and will promote public awareness of our unique natural resources. Proceeds from this exhibition will benefit the New World School of the Arts. The Center for Visual Canrnmication, the non-profit 501 (c) 3 organizer of the event and exhibition, has had an outpouring of cannunity support, but is still far short of covering the costs of the exhibition. This year's exhibition poster will highlight a new picture by nationally acclaimed photographer, Clyde Butcher. The poster will include instructive text about the Everglades system and restoration projects by the South Florida Water Management District. The posters will be distributed throughout the Dade County school system for environmental education programs. This year's contributors include: AT&T, Bacardi, Goldman Sachs, Windmere. WSVN Channel 7 and WLRN Public Radio. However, we have lost much of the financial support we had counted on from banks, retailers, law firms and other businesses affected by the economy. I would like to request a personal appearance at the April 2nd camiission meeting to request funding in the amount of $10,000.00 for this year's exhibition. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
