Dear Mr. Odio:
On behalf of the Puerto Rican Cultural Foundation and its members, I am
requesting to appear before the Miami Commission meeting, scheduled for
April 9, 1992. We would like to propose the temporary street closure for our
annual Parade to begin at 1:00 p.m. and ends 2:00 p.m. The parade route
starts near the entrance of the Dupont Plaza Hotel to Northeast 4th Street
and returning to Bayfront Park, on Biscayne Boulevard. As well, we are
requesting a waiver of all fees allowed by city codes, and the cancellation of
the $4,500 loan plus interest. The funds in question will be used to cover city
police and fire expenses for this years parade/festival scheduled for Sunday,
November 22, 1992. (Parade starts 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. & Festival starts 2 p.m.-
10 p.m. @ Bayfront Park).
The Puerto Rican Discovery Day Parade/Festival is an important event not
only for the city's Puerto Rican population, but for the entire community.
Many dignitaries from various cities as well as Puerto Rico, come to this
celebration, enhancing Miami's reputation as an ethnically diverse and
culturally vibrant community. The many visitors for these celebrations bring
the City, as well, much needed and much appreciated tourist income.
