HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0217.2J-92-231 3/23/92 RESOLUTION NO. 9 % % 17 A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE MIAMI WHEELERS HOME BIKE RACE TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE MIAMI WHEELERS BICYCLE CLUB ON SUNDAY, MAY 10, 1992; AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS HEREIN UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL THE NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Miami Wheelers Bicycle Club will conduct the Miami Wheelers Home Bike Race on Sunday, May 10, 1992; and WHEREAS, certain streets shall be closed to through vehicular traffic during specified dates and hours to insure the safety of the participants and pedestrians attending this event; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference I thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. In order to effectuate safe passage during the Miami Wheelers Home Bike Race, the following streets are hereby :CITY COM�ii ISSION MEETING OF APR 0 2 1992 �e�qution W closed to through vehicular traffic from 8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, May 10, 1992, as specified below: Biscayne Boulevard from Southeast First Street to Northeast Third Street. Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 3. Such closing of streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Said permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's Judgment predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 4. The herein approvals and authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for the necessary costs of City services and fees associated with said event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: �t11i DATE "! � , 2 5 1992 FILE 1 SUEUECResolution for the Closure of Designated Streets/Miami Wheelers Home Bike Race REFERENCES Commission Agenda Item ENCLOSUREapr i 1 2 , 1992 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the closure of designated streets in the Downtown area in connection with the Miami Wheelers Home Bike Race, to be conducted by the Miami Wheelers Bicycle -Club on Sunday, May 10, 1992, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., subject to the issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue _ and Inspection Services. This authorization is further conditioned upon the organizers paying for the cost of. City services and subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared the appropriate legislation for the above mentioned authorization in connection with the Miami Wheelers Home Bike Race, to be conducted by the Miami Wheelers Bicycle Club on Sunday, May 10, 1992. The event organizers have met with the Police Department to design the race course, thereby minimizing traffic disruption in the area of the race.
