HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-0206J-92-214 3/23/92 RESOLUTION NO. 9 2- 206 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH INTER-AMERICAN SUGAR CANE SEMINARS, IN SUPPORT OF THE 1991 INTER-AMERICAN SUGAR CANE SEMINAR ON "NEW TECHNOLOGIES", WHICH WAS HELD IN MIAMI, SEPTEMBER 11-13, 1991; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000 FROM THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE BOARD BUDGET. WHEREAS, the City's International Trade Board recommends that the City Commission continue its support of the Inter - American Sugar Cane Seminars" for 1991, "an event which has been held annually in Miami since 1980; and WHEREAS, Florida is presently the largest raw sugar producing state in the United States, the hub of which is located just 50 miles north of Miami; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that this event will draw over 300 delegates representing 50 countries and 20 states to discuss new technologies in the sugarcane industry; and WHEREAS, hosting this event in Miami exposes the participants to Miami's international business infrastructure to facilitate their international export needs; and CITY COMMISSION . MEETING OF APR 0 2 1992 Resolution No, 92- 206 WHEREAS, the Commission has funded the Inter -American Sugar Cane Seminars since its.inception in 1980; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with Inter -American Sugar Cane Seminars, in support of the 1991 Inter - American Sugar Cane Seminar on "New Technologies", which was held on September 11-13, 1991, with funds therefor in an amount not to exceed $25,000 allocated from the International Trade Board budget. City Manager REFERENCES ENCLOSURES, RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City.Commission adopt the attached resolution allocating $25,000 in support- of the 1991 Inter -American Sugar Cane Seminar on "New Technologies", which was held in Miami, September 11-13, 1991. Funds have been identified in the International Trade Board budget BACKGROUND The City's International Trade Board at its June 27, 1991 meeting, unanimously approved a motion supporting $25,000 in funding for the 1991 Inter -American Sugar Cane Seminar on "New Technologies", an event that has been held annually in Miami since 1980. Florida is presently the largest raw sugar producing state in the United States, the hub of which is located just 50 miles north of Miami. As this event will draw over 300 delegates representing 50 countries and 20 states to discuss new technologies in the sugarcane industry, holding the event in Miami exposes the participants to Miami's international business infrastructure to facilitate their international exports needs.
