A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A JTPA TITLE II -A GRANT FROM THE SOUTH FLORIDA EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING CONSORTIUM (SFETC) IN THE AMOUNT OF $52,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING AN EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAM TO RESIDENTS OF THE WYNWOOD AREA; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO THE NECESSARY IMPLEMENTING AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE SOUTH FLORIDA EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING CONSORTIUM SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS HEREIN AND IN THE CITY CODE. WHEREAS, the Department of Community Development operates the Neighborhoods Jobs Program; and WHEREAS, the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium has awarded the City of Miami $52,000 from JTPA Title II -A funds to provide an On the Job Training Program (OJT) specifically targeted to residents of the Wynwood area of the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a JTPA Title II -A grant from the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium in the amount of $52,000 to provide CITY COMMISSION MEETING Or MA R 1 2 1992 Resolution No. 92-- 174 employment services to residents of the Wynwood area of the City of Miami. SECTION 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into the necessary implementing agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium for the aforementioned JTPA Title II -A program, subject to the conditions and limitations contained herein and in the City Code. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of M;rrh 1992. Odio City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE F E u 2 7 1992 Resolution Accepting SUBJECT JTPA Title II -A Grant REFERENCES City Commission Agenda ENCLOSURES March 12, 1992 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution which authorizes the City Manager to accept a JTPA Title II -A grant from the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium in the amount of $52,000 for the purpose of providing employment services to residents of the Wynwood area of the City of Miami; and further authorizes the City Manager to enter into the necessary implementing agreement with the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium (SFETC). BACKGROUND: The Department of Community Development has prepared legislation authorizing the City Manager to accept a JTPA Title II -A grant from the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium (SFETC) and to enter into agreement with the SFETC upon acceptance. The City has been awarded $52,000 of JTPA Title II -A funds by the SFETC for the Neighborhoods Jobs Program to target outreach and recruitment, employability skills training and specialized job development and placement services specifically to residents of the Wynwood area. Adoption of the proposed legislation authorizes the City Manager to accept the* aforementioned grant and further authorizes the City Manager to enter into the necessary implementing agreement with the SFETC. This legislation is is a companion item to an ordinance which establishes a special revenge fund and appropriates $52,000 for this purpose. Attachment: Proposed Resolution 9 9— 174 Ila
